A bit of history...
Asphalion was founded simultaneously in 2000 in Spain and Italy under the name Regulatory Pharma Net, “RPN”, by a group of pharmaceutical R&D professionals who missed an external service of quality that offered consulting on planning and scientific affairs for the development of new drugs, as well as support to have them approved by international agencies.
After some time, RPN limited its activities to Italy, and the Spanish partners decided to offer a wider scope of specialized services under the name of Asphalion, a company aiming at becoming a great company someday.
As a result of the reshaping of the company, we ran a brainstorming session in order to find a term without local or national connotations, since our approach is of global scope, that could also transmit some of our values.
We decided on a Greek word, initially asphaleia, that means safety, certainty, reliability.
However, we encountered some difficulties to register the brand name, what caused a change of course. Asphalion is both the name of a servant of King Menelaus, who was one of the prominent characters of the “Odyssey”, as well as one of Poseidon’s epithets when referred as “protector against earthquakes”.
In short, the name Asphalion met both the idea of service and unconditional help towards our customers, as well as protection against any setback that could affect their research.
Its strong track record has made ASPHALION a reference in the international healthcare sector and a key stakeholder in the implementation of new regulatory standards
